Behind the Camera...

It's been a wonderful journey since I picked up my first camera and started snapping away at the age of 12. Of course a lot has changed since then. I've felt a reinvention of style and found inspiration in the people and surroundings around me. As I continue to delve deeper into this art, I've learned more about the beauty and complexity of life.

There's no doubt that this art is my passion and my outlet. I hope that what you find here is a familiar smile, a treasured hug, an excited leap of joy, an unwavering gaze, or even an intimate moment between a photographer and her subject.

Lessons in Teaching

My job as a teacher never ends. Which is how I like it. I think teaching for me first started when I was in high school. I was a nerd. A cool nerd. But a nerd nonetheless. I was a nerd because I was a bookworm and I worked hard to get straight-A’s. I was cool because in my mind I’d like to think I got along with most people at my school and I was involved in most of the extracurriculars. But yes, I did look like a nerd with my glasses and geeky demeanor. Picture Daria and you’ve found my doppelganger.

Some of my past students were interested in going out for a shoot. Anytime there’s photography involved, I’m game. So we decided to go downtown and work with a model which they’ve never done before. Again, the weather report forecasted rain, but this time it turned out to be a wonderfully sunny day. Sheena was so great and she volunteered her time and talents for our little impromptu workshop. I really do give her my deepest gratitude for helping out and my past students had an amazing time. I’ve gotten used to doing shoots where it’s almost like a big production (not a bad thing at all!) that when there is something simple that comes along, I can kick back my heels and just press the button.

Thanks everyone for a great day out. It may have been the start of the summer, but I found myself still giving a short course on working with a subject. Seeing their enthusiasm and excitement during the day reminded me of my earlier days with photography. The drive alone to attain what you desire is a life lesson. Really, everyday is about teaching and learning.

My fave pic from the day. What gorgeous skin! It’s like buttermilk pancakes! Yah, I use food descriptions for skin…

The party’s happening here!
