Behind the Camera...

It's been a wonderful journey since I picked up my first camera and started snapping away at the age of 12. Of course a lot has changed since then. I've felt a reinvention of style and found inspiration in the people and surroundings around me. As I continue to delve deeper into this art, I've learned more about the beauty and complexity of life.

There's no doubt that this art is my passion and my outlet. I hope that what you find here is a familiar smile, a treasured hug, an excited leap of joy, an unwavering gaze, or even an intimate moment between a photographer and her subject.

Busy Posting or Too Busy To Post?

So it’s been well over a month since I last posted. Kinda defeats the purpose of having a blog doesn’t it? While I’d like to say the former, alas, I have to admit that it’s the latter… Yes, just too busy to post. Why too busy to post? Quite frankly, I’ve been busy shooting. Editing. Selecting. And more shooting. I came to the conclusion, as much as my blog is important to me, so is getting out there and being a part of the action. This might be a result of being an only child. I have phases of wanting to be in my own space with a focus on doing my own thing. Then there are phases (oh boy are there!) of going out and just being around people that not only bring joy to the work I do, but simply make my life meaningful. Whether it’s trying to portray the division between masculinity and feminity at One King West, trying not to fall off a cliff in Halton, or getting sea-sick on a ship docked at the Harbourfront, I’m always having good time with my camera in my hand.

I wouldn’t say the challenge is finding topics to blog about. People who know me know I LOVE to talk. Overcoming the hurdle of having only 24 hours at my disposal is what it all boils down to. Summer is here so I’m optimistic that my blogging activities will be more consistent. And I have so many events to look forward to that I ecstatic to keep blogging. So for the next few days, you’ll have to be witness to what some call “photo dumping”. You know, when you’ve got a large collection of photos that have been sitting in the camera and you’ve just been dying to post them up for friends and family to see. But I think that sounds so crass so let’s call this “photo sharing” at its max.

I recently got the opportunity to work with yet another amazing team on a creative editorial. The theme was “Masculinity vs. Feminity”. I had the idea to show how there isn’t always a clear division between genders. Our talented models, Layna and Linna, showed how one can be who she wants just by how we look. They pulled off both looks with ease. I’ve always been interested in getting the idea across that there really is no clear division by the end of the day. Society places so much emphasis on having stereotypes and labels for people that individuality has a hard time existing.

The wardrobe styling was done by Pauleanna and Bianca of La’ Brown Styles. It was absolute accessories galore when they opened up the bags and started laying out the variety of pieces. The selection of clothes was spot on for our concept and the little details they put in made a world of difference. Who would’ve known clothes hanger clips can come in so handy for bunching up those curtains that kept getting in my way! And thanks to them, I now have places to go to search for vintage-finds.

No shoot is ever complete without the touch of a makeup artist. Working with Asha again was one of the highlights for me. You might recall, she also worked with me on Sheena’s boudoir shoot a few months back. Time passed quickly when I got to chit-chat with her and catch up on the in-between time since the last shoot.

I’m off the enjoy the weekend. I’ll be covering Pride the whole weekend and volunteering at the booths. Finally a Pride with a forecast of sunshine and rainbows all along Church. Summer’s first big event. NICE!

Oh yes, and yay for Netherlands! My bunny’s team won =D
